Post Office CTT

Monsanto post office is halfway uptown next to the Junta de Freguesia and Adega Tipica.

Open Mon – Fri mornings til 12.30h

Setting up your post box

If you don’t have a street address and want to receive post near your house, you need to tell CTT in Idanha-a-Nova where you’ve put your post box and what address (name of quinta or similar) is on it.

Note that CTT will only deliver letters to boxes on tarred roads.

Acquire a post box and install it visibly and safely. If it is on someone else’s private land, get permission beforehand.

Parcels arriving by CTT

If your post box is not right by your house, CTT will drop a notification in your post box when they have a parcel for you. Go to your post office with the notification and your ID to collect it, between the day following the date on the note and 1 week later. If you leave it longer than a week, they may send it back to sender.

Update: I’ve recently had a CTT parcel delivered to Adelina’s, instead of notification in post box. Maybe due to road works up in the village, maybe not.

Parcels arriving by courier

If you can ensure the delivery driver has your phone number and the means to call you when s/he approaches, your best bet is to meet them e.g. at the bank/pharmacy junction.

If this fails, they may leave your parcel at any local shop or cafe, with Adelina’s shop being the most likely. Track your parcel and collect it as soon as you have reason to be believe it’s been delivered.

For her regular customers, Adelina is happy to serve as delivery address, but please ask beforehand (then you’ll also get the post code) and make sure she knows your name. (Sounds obvious, but I’ve seen the shop swamped with boxes whose owners she was trying to trace.)
