 SNS – Serviço Nacional de Saúde

If you are a resident, you can register with the local surgery or nearest Centro de Saùde.  This then becomes your family doctor, first point of contact for treatment, referral for lab tests or specialist care. A small fee is payable for the first consultation of the month (suspended during Covid crisis) and a modest contribution is also payable for lab work.

 Monsanto surgery  is open Monday & Wednesday  mornings (except 1st Wed of the month), but you need to book an appointment – Tel 277 200 210 or e-mail ucsp.idanha (at) ulscb.min-saude.pt 

Location: modern building uptown between GNR and cannons.

For emergencies only, you can go to  the Centro de Saúde in Idanha-a-Nova:

Cartao Raiano Saude 0-114

You’ll have had a letter and registration form for this in your mailbox in early summer. It’s a private health insurance taken out by the Municipio de Idanha-a-Nova on behalf of all residents in the concelho, with the premium paid by the camara. I gather it’s part of IDN’s efforts to make the rural concelho more attractive to its residents and to complement the SNS which is stretched for staff.

Services offered are similar to those from SNS (see details in the letter). You can use both or either. To qualify, fill in the form and hand it in at one of the offices mentioned.
